Baked Beans Supreme (Aka Gene Brown Beans)

"This recipe was given to my mom (who, in turn, shared it with me) by a guy named Gene Brown. So, of course, when I was a kid we used to call it Gene Brown Beans. I never met him, but evidently he was into BBQ contests and whatnot. Either way, I want to give credit where credit is due, so thanks Gene, if you're out there. This is one serious recipe! In my house, we usually serve it over rice and make a meal of it. It's fabulous."

  1. Loved the flavours! It's great to see a recipe with all these great herbs & seasonings. I amended this recipe to prepare in an electronic pressure cooker. I used raw chicken & sausage so I browned it before the onion. Added everything else (p.s. I drained & rinsed the beans) & cooked on stew setting for 8 mins. This will be a nice addition to my cooker recipes, thanks for sharing.

  2. What a great recipe! We tried it over rice, and the next day put the bean mix into tortillas ... outstanding as is, or add cheese and sour cream. Just great all around. We love Gene Brown around here.

  3. Was gonna omit either the sausage or the chicken, but then decided to do it up recipe-right, so followed the ingredients & directions right down the line! Shared with some friends & all agreed that the combo of chicken & sausage went very well with all the spices used here! Another time I MIGHT cut back on the cumin & red pepper, but that just my preference! A great recipe, & thanks for sharing it! [Made & reviewed for one of my adopted orphans at the end of this Spring's PAC]

  4. Made for Spring PAC 2008: This was wonderful. My whole family loved this very filling and tasty dish! We followed as directed loved how this all came together for the amount of time it took to cook the rice in the rice cooker. The next time we plan to simmer it longer than the original 30 minutes and omit the chicken as a personal preference as per the family. Thanks so much Aimee and Gene Brown for a great dish!!!
